50 Year Club Community Action Prize

The Rensselaer 50 Year Club Student Community Action Prize was established in 2005 and has been awarded annually since then.  The community action prize is given each spring to three Sophomore or Junior class members of the Red and White Organization.  Members submit a written application according to the posted dates for the year.  Applicants will be judged using a 10 factor score and a face-to-face interview.  The factor score and the interview will each count for 50% in the selection of prize winners.

Prizes:

1st Place - $750 cash award and opportunity for a $750 stipend for the 50 Year Club and Red & White Experience (see below).

2nd Place - $500 cash award*

3rd Place - $250 cash award

*In the event the 1st place winner cannot or does not want to accept the $750 stipend it will be offered to the 2nd place prize winner.

50 Year Club and Red & White experience

In the academic year following the award the winning member would work in the Office of Alumni Relations as the 50 Year Club student liaison on programs and projects put forth by the 50 Year Club.  The student would work 4-8 hours a week (flexible hours) to help advance the 50 Year Club through its programs and initiatives.  Duties could include:

  • Serve as the 50 Year Club representative for the Red & White Student Organization
  • Facilitate the 50 Year Club Community Action Prize process for the next year
  • Assist the Office of Alumni Relations and the 50 Year Club BOD to obtain speakers
  • Attend 50 Year Club BOD meetings as the Red & White student liaison
  • Attend 50 Year Club functions during Reunion & Homecoming Weekend

Rensselaer 50 Year Club Student Community Action Prize Judging Information

The Rensselaer 50 Year Club Student Community Action Prize was established in 2005 and has been awarded annually since then.  The community action prize is given each spring to three Sophomore or Junior class members of the Red and White Organization.  Members submit a written application according to the posted dates for the year.  Applicants will be scored using a 10 factor score sheet.  The committee members will review the written applications and determine the value to be assigned to each factor.  The total score will count for 50% in the selection of prize winners.  The other 50% will be based on the face-to-face interviews with committee members.
